F ilmmaking is basically a business whether you want to do it as a business or not. Even if you aren’t doing “corporate work” (or promotional media type stuff) you still need to deal with schedules, contracts, payments and all kinds of other details.

I recently had the opportunity to speak at the North Dakota Home School Convention on the subject of entrepreneurship and how to start your own business. Though it’s not specific to film, I cover how my family and I got started in our various businesses, and how you can get started too. At the same time, not everyone needs to start their own business. But – as I show – you do need to be an “entrepreneur” in everything that you do.
